Ben Moudry

What do you do at Capitol Lien?

I’m the Development Manager here at Capitol Lien. I manage a team of developers to maintain, enhance, and create tools to help the company provide our services to our customers.

What is the best part about your Capitol Lien career?

The people. I have been privileged to work with a wide variety of people while working here. It’s been great how everybody is down-to-earth and approachable no matter what their position.

How did you get into this industry?

Hmmm, hard question. There are two interesting stories about that: If you mean how did I get into development, then that was after college. I had been looking for a job for about six months with almost no luck and in the meantime taking care of our two oldest sons. The oldest was in T-ball and I volunteered to be an assistant coach for his team. At the end of the season, the other assistant coach and I were talking at the final team party and he mentioned he was a hiring manager at IBM in a consulting division. I applied and was hired sight unseen (more rare back then). That leads into the second interesting story. The IBM job was 100% travel (fly out Sunday night or Monday and fly home Thursday night or Friday). IBM didn’t care where I lived so we moved to Minnesota. Right across the street from us in our new home was a very nice family (Jude Ronyak). After living there a few years he mentioned an opening at his job and thought I would be a great fit. So I applied and became the IT Manager for Capitol Lien!

What do you do in your free time?

Board games with the family (Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Wingspan, Istanbul, etc.).

What was your first-ever job?

Teaching toddlers to swim.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Marrying my wife Nichole. There is not a single area of my life that has not been improved by having her in it.

What did you want to be when growing up?

I wanted to be a music teacher. I’m not sure where that dream died but I don’t regret not pursuing that.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

You wouldn’t know it to look at me now, but I actually started college on a swimming scholarship!

What have you gained since working at Capitol Lien?

It’s hard to quantify everything I’ve gained since working here. I have gained experience in many different areas of technology, from phone systems to multifunction copy machines, to online services. I think the unexpected things are like the amount of work it takes to run a successful business or how little changes can have a ripple effect even in a small company.

What is your favorite service/product we offer to our clients and why?

I’m biased on this one, but I would have to say our Database Direct UCC searches.
