With over a decade of experience, Tom Hauer is a long-standing client favorite and a key component to our County Research Department. There isn’t a complex legal description that he can’t handle!
Q: What do you do at Capitol Lien?
A: I am responsible for the management and direction of the County Research Department.
Q: What is the best part about your Capitol Lien Career?
A: Working with amazing people from coworkers to clients. They never cease to amaze me.
Q: How did you get into this industry?
A: Unfortunately it’s true sometimes; it’s not what you know…
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: Ride bikes, run, hike, ski… basically spend time outside with family and friends.
Q: What did you want to be when growing up?
A: Still trying to find the answer to this question. But I can say if I were to have a career change the next obvious step would most likely be in the direction of carnival ride operations.
Q: Where would your dream vacation be?
A: Anywhere with mountains. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Sierra Nevadas I would be happy.
Q: What is your favorite meal/food?
A: Anything inside a corn tortilla. Heck, you could fry up some onions and earwax, put it in a corn tortilla and it would be delicious.
Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?
A: I’m actually 6’2” not 6’1.5”. Oh and when I was 12 I was struck in the head with a golf ball and had to have 30 stitches in my forehead. This may explain a lot.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: I actually have three…
Nelson Mandela famously said: I never lose. I either win or learn.
Will Rogers: When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not kicking and screaming like all the passengers in his car.
Russell Ziskey: My father always told me never hurt anyone out of anger unless you are absolutely sure you can get away with it. (I personally don’t subscribe to this last quote, it just makes me laugh).
Q: What have you gained since working at Capitol Lien?
A: On a professional level, I’ve gained in-depth knowledge of property records; How to work with wonderful people; and many different problem solving skills. On a personal level, I didn’t have a beard when I started and now I do.
Q: What is your favorite service we offer to our clients and why?
A: Selfishly I’d have to say anything that involves property research. Preferably properties with complex legal descriptions that force us to dig deep and learn from what the records have to offer.
