Tyler Jorenby
Job Title: Developer
We’re excited to feature Tyler in our August Employee Spotlight!
Years at Capitol Lien: 4 years
What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien?
Before developing software, I was a customer service manager for a number of years. I believe having that background has prepared me to approach our Researchers almost as “customers” when it comes to developing Connect. And, as Capitol Lien does, we do our best to provide the best experience possible for our customers.
Share a professional success story that you’re proud of, OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it?
One project that stands out is developing a workflow for managing order changes at a manufacturing company where I worked. Our products were made-to-order, and I identified a natural gap in the production process that allowed our customer service team to flag an order for the production team to reference.
What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team?
I love the long discussions we have before developing a new feature or solving a complex problem. Not only do we need to figure out the technical aspect, but we also how it will improve the experience for our Researchers. Each member of our team brings a unique set of experiences and perspectives, which makes the process fun and engaging.
What do you love most about your job and why?
I love the fact that there’s constant forward momentum. Seeing where Connect is today, compared to where we started in 2021, is incredibly fulfilling. I also love the fact that our team prioritizes Researcher feedback and can respond to issues quickly and efficiently.
What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without?
Google! A big part of my job is learning new skills and ways to solve unique problems, so there’s quite a bit of research involved.
What’s a hidden talent or hobby that might surprise your colleagues?
It’s not necessarily “hidden”, but I’ve been a professional musician (drummer) for over twenty years. I run a cover band called Junk FM, and we play 75 – 100 shows a year.
If you could star in a movie or TV show, which one would it be?
I’d have to say Seinfeld
What’s your favorite holiday, and how do you usually celebrate it?
Christmas! My wife and I host an open house for both of our families every year in early December. It’s been great seeing extended family on both sides connect.
What’s your most-used emoji, and what does it say about you?
It’d have to be the kissy-face emoji, and I use it exclusively with my wife.
Do you have any pets?
I do! Three silly pups. Oswald (chiweenie), Gertie (Kelpie / Pit mix), and Steve (Bull dog/ Springer Spaniel mix)
