We’re excited to feature Michele in our November Employee Spotlight!

Years at Capitol Lien: 11 years

  1. What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career? I have learned that teamwork is very important. Nice to know your coworkers have your back when you get behind. It is also important to just work as hard as you can and that’s all you can do because we are human.
  2. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of. When I worked for the Kandiyohi County Surveyor, I had an abstract to do for a grocery store. It took up my entire desk, and I worked on it forever. I was so nervous that there would be a mistake. It’s been 30 years so I think I’m ok now.
  3. How do you think your role has helped to shape your team’s culture? I usually try to be in a good mood. Whatever is going on in our lives, it’s not our coworkers or client’s fault. I will be as cheery as I can no matter what & I think people appreciate it. I know I don’t like dealing with crabby people.
  4. What do you love most about your job and why? The people in this company have always been what makes it great. Easy to work with knowledgeable people that are willing to help. I also love being able to work at home in my sweat pants, makes the day go by faster.
  5. What techniques help you stay organized and productive? I surely can’t give advice on how to be organized. I try not to have too many stacks of paper around me; it makes me feel overwhelmed. I have started to put my phone in another room on silence mode for a while. Too distracting.
  6. What is a dream that you want to make come true one day? I would love to write a children’s book. I was a student at the Institute of Children’s Literature for a few years (remotely) and loved it.
  7. What is your greatest accomplishment? My kids! Some people might not think of that as an accomplishment but I sure do. I was with them for 20 years day and night and they were with me wherever I went. It was exhausting & wonderful. They were my best friends & as adults, when I see them rush to open a door for an elderly person, I think… I did something right in this world!
  8. What’s something most people don’t know about you? Some people don’t know I  have a twin sister. She has blond hair and blue eyes, so we are very fraternal. Laura Jane and Michele Jean are as cute as my mom got with the twin thing, thank goodness.
  9. What is your favorite quote? “Nature has its very own song, but few people ever take the time to listen to her notes”.
  10. Do you have any pets? We have 3 dogs, Bear, Lucy & Ivy, 3 ducks, way too many barn cats that are all named & all want attention at the same time, my cat Twix in the house & 10 chickens (down 35 from the hungry raccoons this summer)
