Name: Kara Roach
Job Title: Director of Accounting & HR
Years at Capitol Lien: 11
We’re excited to feature Kara in our December Employee Spotlight!
- What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien? I enjoy helping people, and I also really find accounting rewarding. That’s probably a unique combination. When employees have unexpected circumstances arise, such as needing time away due to health concerns, I strive to provide them with the necessary tools to help maintain their peace of mind. Equally as satisfying is digging into a financial puzzle or project and working through it.
- Share a professional success story that you’re proud of. Before Capitol Lien, I worked for an international company that manufactured inspection systems for production lines. When I started there, the parts inventory system for the U.S. side was manual. I developed barcodes and part groupings to facilitate the production of finished products, accounting for the USD-to-EUR conversion. Then, I integrated a new inventory management software with the accounting system to streamline the production and billing processes.
- What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team? Interacting with different people and their skill sets to work toward the best possible results for our company’s goals.
- What do you love most about your job and why? The people. Capitol Lien is filled with people who collaborate and help one another grow and succeed.
- What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without? That’s probably a tie between QuickBooks, Excel, and HR software.
- What do you love to do in your free time? I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, paddleboarding, yoga, volunteering, and, bonus, doing those things with my family.
- What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken, and what made it memorable? I could really point to any camping trip as a favorite. Last year, my family went to Voyageurs National Park. Time together with my family in nature makes for the most memorable trips for me!
- If you could star in a movie or TV show, which one would it be? 911 because my 20-year-old and I watch it together and laugh. It’s so over the top! If they’re not living through a tsunami, they’re somehow trapped in space.
- What’s your favorite holiday, and how do you usually celebrate it? Christmas Day. My family and I wake up slowly, now that we have adult children. Then we open our presents together with the kids and grandkids. Afterward, we pull mattresses into our living room and hang out together watching movies and eating snacks.
- If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why? Fred Rogers. Every person who met him remarked on what a kind and generous person he was. I’d love to get his insight on current events, especially, but also just to sit and chat and hear about his life’s work.
