February Spotlight – Samantha Gonczy

Name: Samantha Gonczy

Job Title: Abstractor

Years at Capitol Lien: 3 years 9 months

We’re excited to feature Samantha in our February Employee Spotlight!

  1. What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien?

When I joined Capitol Lien, I was a true beginner with no prior industry experience. Being a clean slate allowed me to be trained fully in CL’s standards, protocols, and best practices from the ground up, giving me a strong foundation to continue adapting and growing with the company.

  1. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it?

One of the most challenging experiences I’m proud of was early in my career, right after graduating from college. I held four jobs simultaneously for just over two years to pay down the debt I had incurred while attending school. Balancing the workload was demanding, and I was initially concerned about being able to give 100% in each role. By creating a structured schedule and staying disciplined, I consistently performed well and was recognized at each position for my contributions.

  1. What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team?

My favorite part of collaborating with my team is the fun banter woven into our work. We’re able to stay productive while also seeing the lighthearted, funny side of things, and I often find myself smiling or laughing during the day. It makes collaboration genuinely enjoyable.

  1. What do you love most about your job and why?

What I love most about my job is the ability to work from home. My husband and I work opposite schedules so one of us can always be with our kids, and being home lets me hear them throughout the day. I can join them for lunch, hang their freshly finished drawings at my desk, and get quick hugs and kisses – it makes me feel present in their lives instead of feeling like I’m missing out as they grow up.

  1. What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without?

The internet. While it may seem obvious, we didn’t have internet before I was offered this role, so setting it up became essential for me to accept and succeed in the position.

  1. What do you love to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my husband and kids. We enjoy being outdoors, playing games, making music together (I think our kids might form a band someday), and doing arts and crafts, though some of us are more enthusiastic about it than others.

  1. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d do?

I’d pay off my house and buy a minivan. I’m ready to enter my minivan mom era!

  1. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken, and what made it memorable?

The best vacation I’ve ever taken was my honeymoon with my husband. We traveled out west, exploring parts of North Dakota and Montana, and spent a few days in Wyoming at Yellowstone. We kept our phones on airplane mode so we could truly unplug, relax, and enjoy having no responsibilities for a week. It made the experience especially memorable – it felt like we had finally found the “pause” button while dreaming about what life had in store for us as we began our new adventure.

  1. What’s your most-used emoji, and what does it say about you?

 🤣 I love to laugh

  1. Do you have any pets?

Yes! We have a dog named Blue, whom we adopted from a local rescue, and two cats: Minnie, who lives her best life indoors, and King George, who truly rules the outdoors.
