Geoff Dugal

Job Title:  Administrative Assistant

We’re excited to feature Geoff in our July Employee Spotlight!

Years at Capitol Lien: 1 year

  1. What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien?
I spent over two decades in restaurant management so I constantly look at how tasks can be improved and made easier.
  2. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it?
Early in my career, I was tasked with developing an inventory management system for a startup where I was working.  I learned how to program the POS system, entered every item involved, including weight and packaging details for every product we sold, and created an easy-to-use tracker using Excel.  The final result was an 11% reduction in total food and paper costs.
  1. What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team?
That everyone genuinely cares and likes what they do.  We all have different backgrounds so everyone brings something different and unique to the table.
  1. What do you love most about your job and why?
The people and clients I work with.  Both challenge me to do my best.
  1. What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without?
The people.  I can’t think of anywhere else I have worked where everyone is completely engaged and committed to not only doing their best, but also motivating and helping each other.
  1. What do you love to do in your free time?
I love to spend as much time as I can outside, either walking, hiking, tubing, kayaking, or biking.
  1. What’s a hidden talent or hobby that might surprise your colleagues?
I started college as a Music Major with my primary instrument as Trombone, and my minor instrument as Piano.  I owned three trombones – one for Orchestra, one for Jazz, and one for Marching.  I sold two of them and kept my Jazz horn.  I also recorded a very low-budget movie soundtrack about claymation gangster chickens.
  2. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken, and what made it memorable
I’ve had a few incredible vacations, but my parents took me to Colorado for two weeks when I was 17.  We took Million Dollar Highway to Ouray (no guard rails and absolutely terrifying in a conversion van), went to a Jazz Festival in Glenwood Springs and a Mountain Fair in Carbondale.  Best part of the trip, though, was Whitewater Rafting on the Colorado River.
  3. Do you have any pets?
Right now I don’t, but ever since my miniature poodle Whitney crossed the rainbow bridge 4 years ago, I have been wanting to find another dog.  I have been highly considering fostering one.
