June Spotlight – Felonice Merriman

Felonice Merriman

Job Title: Marketing and Communications Specialist

We’re excited to feature Felonice in our June Employee Spotlight!

Years at Capitol Lien: A little over a year

1, What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien? Creativity, hands down. Whether it’s crafting clever social media posts, building out marketing campaigns, brainstorming event ideas, or dreaming up fun employee contests, I’m always on the hunt for fresh ways to make Capitol Lien stand out.

2. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it? During COVID, I had to quickly pivot a regional parenting magazine that was primarily print-based. With little time to spare, I transformed it into a fully digital publication, building a brand-new website and launching an online directory from scratch to continue supporting local families and businesses. It was a crash course in resilience, adaptability, and digital innovation, and I’m proud of how it all came together during such an uncertain time.

3. What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team? Our business development/marketing team is small but mighty and a whole lot of fun. Whether we’re teaming up on projects or hitting the road for conferences, there’s always a great mix of laughs, creativity, and genuine support. We lift each other up, cheer each other on, and somehow make even the busiest days feel like a good time.

4.What do you love most about your job and why? No two days are ever the same. Graphic design, social media, marketing strategy, and writing all come together in a way that keeps me creatively inspired. But what truly makes working at Capitol Lien special is the people. My coworkers bring positivity, support, and a healthy dose of “Minnesota Nice”  to each day, and that makes all the difference. It’s pretty awesome to log on each morning knowing you’re part of a team that makes work feel a little more like fun.

5. What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without? Canva is my go-to for all things creative, but I’d be lost without my task lists, spreadsheets, and—let’s be honest—my lineup of beverages. I fully embrace my beverage goblin ways, but an iced London Fog latte is the true MVP.

6. What do you love to do in your free time? My husband and I love to travel. We’re always on the lookout for our next adventure. We’re total foodies and both Yelp Elites, so trying new restaurants and local eats is a big part of the fun. We also blog and share our experiences along the way, highlighting the best spots (and hidden gems) from each trip.

7. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken, and what made it memorable? My husband and I spent two unforgettable weeks in Ireland for our wedding. We road-tripped across the country—starting in Dublin, navigating the “wrong” side of the road, exploring castles, and checking out Giant’s Causeway, the Cliffs of Moher, and Benbulbin Mountain. We visited a breathtaking waterfall tucked into the countryside. Checked out vibrant Belfast with its rich history and street art, walked the walled city of Derry, and explored the lively Latin Quarter of Galway, full of busker vibes and charm. We even tried (unsuccessfully) to pet the sheep! The highlight was our cliffside Celtic wedding ceremony, followed by an epic celebration with the locals at Gus O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin. We met so many incredible people during the trip, and we’re always dreaming about going back.

8. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d do? Buy a house—or let’s be honest, a castle—in Ireland. (See “Best Vacation” above for all the reasons why!) I’d pack my bags, grab my husband, and start living that countryside dream surrounded by cliffs, castles, and sheep I still probably wouldn’t be able to pet.

9. What’s your favorite holiday, and how do you usually celebrate it? Halloween is my favorite—and honestly, it turns into a month-long celebration. From trick-or-treating with my kids to attending events and costume parties with friends, there are so many fun ways to get into the spooky spirit. This past year, I even took a trip to Salem, Massachusetts, to soak up all the Halloween Witchy vibes. I also love shopping for Halloween decorations… many of which quietly become year-round home decor. In my world, every day is Halloween. Being spooky, witchy, and a little goth isn’t just seasonal, it’s a lifestyle.

10. Do you have any pets? We have quite a few, including some chickens! My favorite is our little doggy, Leia. She was born on Star Wars Day (May the 4th, of course), and true to her name, she’s leading the small dog rebellion. Leia is a Biewer Terrier with a big personality who loves barking at delivery drivers and keeping our household on high alert.
