March Spotlight – Laura Schneider

Name: Laura Schneider

Job Title: Business Development Specialist

Years at Capitol Lien: Just celebrated my 1-year anniversary!

We’re excited to feature Laura in our March Employee Spotlight!

  1. What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien? Having worked in business development for most of my career, and having spent time improving processes and incorporating new software tools in previous roles, I think I have a broad perspective that works well at Capitol Lien. I love working with clients and prospective clients and have learned how to listen and support their goals. I also understand the tools that make my work better and know how to learn new systems. Finally, I’ve seen what makes a good company and a bad one. Capitol Lien lands in the GREAT category – both in how we treat our clients and how the culture of the firm is rooted in positivity and teamwork.
  2. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it? I helped review and customize a practice management software platform in a previous role. I had to learn it, train on it, and convince co-workers and attorneys that it would make their lives easier, not harder. Definitely a challenge! Being part cheerleader, part taskmaster (and enlisting a few team members who ‘got it)’, we managed to incorporate the program.
  3. What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team? The energy, enthusiasm, and commitment. The effort not to silo departments or job functions within reason. The willingness of every team member to collaborate and/or educate.
  4. What do you love most about your job and why? Every day is different. There are new things to learn and new challenges to meet. I also love seeing our efforts come to fruition. We are growing by doing good things – it’s a great feeling. Also, it’s not required to like your co-workers on a personal level, but it sure helps. And I really like my co-workers!
  5. What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without? Our CRM, our orders software, my co-workers. OK, I know that’s three but…
  6. What do you love to do in your free time? Hang with my daughter when she’s home, workout, read, travel, shop. Maybe the question should have been, what DON’T I like to do?
  7. What book or podcast has left a lasting impact on you? Reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee when I was young and reading “There Is Nothing For You Here” by Fiona Hill recently.
  8. What’s a small, everyday thing that brings you joy? Ridiculous conversations, texts or memes that make me laugh. Especially if they are from my kid.
  9. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken, and what made it memorable? Every vacation has something memorable, which is why I love to travel. But Ireland with my daughter was amazing. The country and the memories we made together can’t be duplicated. Though we’re gonna try!
  10. Do you have any pets? No. I had two horses and five cats at one point. Now I’m satisfied playing babysitter to friends’ dogs and giving them back after the visit.
