October Spotlight – Karri Bauer-Bass

We’re excited to feature Karri in our October Employee Spotlight!

Name: Karri Bauer-Bass

Job Title: Supervisor of the Fabstractor Team

Years at Capitol Lien: it depends on what era we are discussing.  LOL, collectively 15 years??

  1. What’s a unique skill or perspective you bring to your role at Capitol Lien? With over 20 years of experience in the title industry, I have held a variety of roles and developed a diverse skill set. My background spans typing abstracts and commitments to examining titles and producing final policies. What I find most exciting about this industry is its constant evolution, and I value the opportunity to continue learning new things every day.
  2. Share a professional success story that you’re proud of OR What’s the most challenging project you’ve tackled, and how did you overcome it? I was assigned the task to abstract the entirety of the Gustavus Adophus campus properties from patent. Because the land spans several sections and was purchased at various times in different parcels, I created a hand-drawn, to-scale map labeled with the Document Numbers to ensure complete accuracy and coverage.  There were so many sections I had to tape together a couple sheets of paper. The entire assignment took about a month to complete. I still have the map I drew somewhere because I couldn’t toss it, it represents the sweat and tears of that project.
  3. What’s your favorite part about collaborating with your team? The Fabstractor Team is an amazing group of talented individuals, blending deep experience with new fresh perspectives. They are always eager to work together and support one another. I truly enjoy signing in each day to work alongside them—they make my job a pleasure and so much easier.
  4. What do you love most about your job and why? I strongly believe in Capitol Lien’s mission and vision. Our team genuinely cares about the quality of our work and is fully committed to delivering their best every day. Working alongside dedicated colleagues who take pride in their performance makes it easy to love what I do. Additionally, management is truly invested in our well-being. I appreciate the perks provided, such as on-site yoga, encouragement to use our vacation time, and support for continuous learning through classes, books, and other resources.
  5. What’s one tool or resource you couldn’t do your job without? I really value team chats and the ability to jump on a quick video call when needed. Throughout the day, I frequently use these chats to connect with coworkers to ask and answer questions. They are a vital communication resource, especially when working from home, as they help us touch base and make remote work feel more personal.
  6. What do you love to do in your free time? I used to ride my motorcycle and tour with friends but since becoming a Granny, my focus has shifted to anything grandkid related.  I have 4 now and they are my greatest Joy.
  7. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d do? If I won, I would pay off personal, family, and my kids’ debts, then go on a motorcycle tour to eat my way across Europe. After that, I would set up a charity for local women and children dedicated to creating safe and stable living situations.
  8. What’s a small, everyday thing that brings you joy? Pictures of my grandkids.
  9. What’s a hidden talent or hobby that might surprise your colleagues? I have taught myself to crochet and have made several gifts for family and friends.
  10. Do you have any pets?  Gemma is a 13 year old Pittie.  Jasper is a 10 year old pittie mix.  Skrillex is a 15 year old Tortoiseshell cat with an attitude.  If you thought the pitbull ran the house you are wrong.  The cat rules this roost.
