December Employee Spotlight: Ben Moudry

Ben Moudry

IT Manager

Ben has been with Capitol Lien for 15 years and works in our IT department. We’re excited to feature Ben in our December Employee Spotlight!

What do you do at Capitol Lien?

My official title is IT Manager but my job responsibilities have changed since that title was given to me.  I work with a team of other developers and Mandy to write software that will help Capitol Lien deliver services to our clients.

What is the best part about your Capitol Lien career?

I enjoy all the different types of work I have been able to do at Capitol Lien.  Many technical jobs are just help desk or just system administration or just development, but I have been able to dabble in many areas of IT.

How did you get into this industry?

I got into the development industry out of college getting my first job in a role that was 100% travel.  After 4 years of flying out every Monday and home on Friday my neighbor, Jude, told me there was an opening at Capitol Lien and I applied.

What have you gained since working at Capitol Lien?

I think the most important thing I’ve learned is that there is rarely one “right” answer.  There are usually several ways to solve a problem or fill a business need and sometimes doing whatever you can think of first is more important than finding the optimal solution.  The first approach can usually be modified as new information and opportunities arise that offer more efficient solutions.

What do you love to do in your free time?

The most common activity in my free time is probably board games with my family.  I used to think I was pretty good at them too but now my kids are grown up and I don’t win as often as I used to.  It may be stereotypical, but I also like to play video games.  Nothing too involved or intense but something I can just mindlessly click around in as a decompress.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My family.  Marrying my wife before she came to her senses was the greatest decision I ever made and raising our children with her is definitely my greatest accomplishment.  We have been very blessed.  At least two other people agree with me as one of my sons got married in 2021 and another is getting married this month!

What is your favorite meal or food?

I love Mexican food.  I can’t think of a time I was not in the mood for Mexican.  I embrace all types of Mexican, from the nominally Mexican Taco Bell, to the authentic Mexican in a small strip mall named “Mexican Restaurant”.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I may have used this one before at a Christmas party or something but I think the thing most people find surprising about me given my current lack of shape is that I was a scholarship athlete.  I started college at Georgia Tech on a swimming scholarship.

What is your favorite band or genre of music?

I like classical music.  I listen to almost anything  but really enjoy the complexity of classical music.  That probably comes from playing in an orchestra from 6th grade through college.  I also listen to some jazz, mostly piano trios.
