Employee Spotlight: Bill Allard

Employee Spotlight Bill Allard

Let us introduce you to one of our many wonderful Abstractors, Bill Allard! Bill has been working at Capitol Lien for 2 years and brings an abundance of knowledge to our team. We’ve enjoyed getting to know him a little better, and hope you do too!

Q: What do you do at Capitol Lien?

A: Real Estate Title Research, and generate reports.

Q: What is the best part about your Capitol Lien Career?

A: The best part is probably the variety of work that we get. We see everything from simple deed searches to complicated commercial 40 year searches.

Q: How did you get into this industry?

A: Like most other Abstractors, I got into the industry pretty much by accident. In 1989, I answered an ad in the Pioneer Press for an Abstractor at a company called Warranty Title. I had some experience with recording documents in a previous job, and I knew how to get to the Ramsey County Recorder’s office, so I guess they thought I was worth showing the ropes to. I’ve been at it ever since.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

A: Woodcraft, play my guitars, play with my grandkids, cook, and travel when it is safe to do so.

Q: What was your first-ever job?

A: Summer of 1977 I was bussing tables and washing dishes at a little place on the corner of Grand and Hamline Avenue in St. Paul called Doc Witherspoon’s. I was 15 at the time.

Q: What did you want to be when growing up?

A: A Minnesota North Star. Barring that, a Montreal Canadien. Cesar Maniago and Ken Dryden were my guys!

Q: Where would your dream vacation be?

A: My two favorite places are Vermont and Bavaria. I hope to return to both places in the future.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make” –  John, Paul, George and Ringo

Q: What have you gained since working at Capitol Lien?

A: An appreciation for those who work remotely.  Until the pandemic, I was always part of an office filled with people, or out at the courthouses with other people. I’ve been working remotely for a year and a half now. It took me a while to get used to it, so I can appreciate what it means to be “on your own”, so to speak.

Q: What is your favorite service we offer to our clients and why?

A: The Abstracting services. That is really the only service that I am involved with, so naturally it is my favorite!
